Daisy’s practical planner

Sea kayaking is not flat-water hire with a prettier backdrop.

The St Davids coastline has tidal races, swell, cold water and difficult landings. Beginners should choose a guided session whose venue can move with the forecast. Paddleboarding needs especially careful wind judgement: an offshore breeze can carry a board away from shore quickly.

01

Use the right leash

An ankle leash can be dangerous in flowing water; take provider or RNLI advice for the environment.

02

Dress for immersion

Cold water affects breathing and movement even on a warm day.

03

Tell someone the plan

Route, return time and emergency contact matter even on a short independent paddle.

04

Have a land fallback

A cancelled sea session is good decision-making. Build a walk, art stop or lunch into the day.

Put the activity on the map

Two places worth building into the day.
